Description

Monsignor Hugh O'Flaherty was an Irish priest and humanitarian renowned for his bravery during World War II. Based in Vatican City, he organized an underground network that saved over 6,500 Allied soldiers and Jews from the Nazis. Nicknamed the "Scarlet Pimpernel of the Vatican," his resourcefulness and compassion earned him global admiration. O'Flaherty's heroic efforts were later immortalized in books and the film The Scarlet and the Black.
