Description

Scull Cemetery is a historic burial ground on Old Post Road in Arkansas Post, Arkansas County, about 1.25 miles north of Arkansas Post National Memorial. Although local signage has called it the “oldest cemetery in Arkansas,” historical evidence identifies it as the newer of two cemeteries associated with the post; the earlier burial ground was gradually lost to Arkansas River erosion. ([encyclopediaofarkansas.net](https://encyclopediaofarkansas.net/entries/scull-cemetery-21054/?utm_source=openai)) The earliest documented burial at Scull is Henry Wharton Conway, a territorial congressman who died from wounds received in an 1827 duel with Robert Crittenden. His original obelisk was destroyed, and a modern military marker now identifies the grave.
