Oak Rest Cemetery – Brenham – TX – USA

Oak Rest Cemetery is located near Brenham in Washington County, Texas, along Mayfair Lane near Clay Creek Road. The cemetery is associated with the site of Prospect Presbyterian Church, organized by the Reverend Hugh Wilson in February 1839 as the second Presbyterian church founded in Texas. A log schoolhouse on the site hosted worship services and the organization of the first Brazos Presbytery of Texas in 1840; the congregation later disbanded in 1928. Those interred include pioneer members of Prospect Presbyterian Church, members of the Miller family, and veterans of the Texas Revolution and Civil War. A Texas Historical Commission marker commemorating the cemetery and church site was erected in 1994.
