Description

North Indian Cemetery is located on Highway 18 north of Pawnee in Pawnee County, Oklahoma. It is also known as Oak Grove and is associated with the Pawnee community. Cemetery transcriptions document burials spanning much of the twentieth century, including members of families with long-standing connections to Pawnee. Among the recorded graves is that of Simond “Dog Chief” Adams, who lived from 1856 to 1939. Recent funeral notices continue to identify North Indian Cemetery as a burial place for Pawnee-area residents, including members of the Pawnee Nation. Genealogical records are available through cemetery transcription projects, but the published listings caution that names and dates should be independently verified.
