Description

Kilverdan is an old Catholic cemetery located in the townland of Clooneen, within the civil parish of Kilglass and the Catholic parish of Strokestown. It is reputed to be one of the oldest burial sites in the county, with some local folklore suggesting that men who fought in the Crusades are buried here. The cemetery is poorly maintained and is situated on a raised site about 100 meters from the road, with access through the steel yard of an engineering firm. There is no attached place of worship, and no register of burials is kept. A mass is held annually in Rome for those buried there.
