Description
Killaghtee Old Church Cemetery, dating back to the mid-12th century, was active until the early 18th century and served as both a Catholic and Protestant burial ground. Its most notable feature is the Killaghtee Cross, circa 650 AD, marking the transition from flat grave slabs to upright Celtic crosses. The cross bears a Maltese Cross and the triple knot of St. Bridget, symbolizing the Holy Trinity. Located near Dunkineely, it is accessible via a signposted route. A similar cross exists at St. Mura's Monastery in Fahan.
