Description

Hickory Grove Cemetery is located on State Road 16 West near Green Cove Springs in Clay County, Florida, and is associated with Hickory Grove Baptist Church. The church was organized in 1863, while the cemetery contains more than 300 graves, including a documented grave dating to 1849. Its marked features include obelisks and family plots enclosed by wrought-iron fences. The church’s original log sanctuary was built from old-growth yellow pine by volunteer labor from Confederate soldiers stationed in Green Cove Springs; later buildings were erected in 1913 and 1955. A nonprofit Hickory Grove Cemetery Association is registered in Florida and lists a Green Cove Springs address. For historical burial research, the Clay County Historical Archives in Green Cove Springs can assist with older county records and genealogical materials.
