Description

Hebrew Cemetery is an active Jewish cemetery on Angel Street in Reno, west of the University of Nevada, Reno. Established in 1879 by the Reno Hebrew Benevolent Society, it is described as northern Nevada’s only entirely Jewish cemetery. The cemetery follows Jewish burial customs, including rapid burial and no burials on the Saturday Sabbath. Hebrew Cemetery Inc., a nonprofit corporation formed in 2003, owns and manages the grounds. Its historic monuments include graves of early Reno families, Spanish-American War veteran Cpl. Mark Robinson, and El Cortez developer Abraham Zetoony.
