Description
Forest Cemetery is located on North B Street in Coeur d’Alene, Kootenai County, Idaho. The cemetery originated as the post cemetery for Fort Sherman, a U.S. Army installation later abandoned when the army relocated to Spokane. In 1905, President Theodore Roosevelt issued a proclamation conveying the former army cemetery and adjoining land to the City of Coeur d’Alene for municipal use. It remains a city-owned perpetual-care cemetery administered through the municipal Parks and Recreation Department. The grounds include sections associated with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 889 and American Legion Post 14, while documented features include monuments honoring a descendant of Betsy Ross and graves of Civil War veterans. The city provides an interactive burial search and reports cremains lots, infant lots, and cremains niche walls among available arrangements.
