Description

Drinagh West is a medieval graveyard overlooking Curraghlicky Lake, with a history tied to a late medieval church no longer standing and a later Church of Ireland church built in 1818, known locally as "the steeple." It has been in use for centuries, containing Roman Catholic burials, with the earliest inscription from 1843 and one known Church of Ireland grave. The site once featured a watch-house to prevent bodysnatching, a common practice in the past. A sign at the graveyard lists the names of those buried there, a project coordinated by the Skibbereen Heritage Centre.
