Description

Concord Cemetery is located in Concord, an unincorporated community in western Leon County, Texas, about 10 miles northwest of Centerville and eight miles south of Jewett. A Concord Baptist Church and cemetery were established at the site before the surrounding community developed, which occurred between 1856 and 1893. The community was probably named for Concord, Massachusetts, the hometown of its first settlers. Recorded inscriptions include burials dating to the 1860s, with later graves reflecting the families and institutions associated with Concord over more than a century. The cemetery is closely connected with the local Baptist congregation and the historic development of the community, which later grew around the railroad and regional roads. Genealogical researchers can consult Leon County cemetery indexes and published transcription records, though grave inventories may not include every burial.
