Description

Christ Church Episcopal Cemetery is located on West Commons Drive in Glynn County, Georgia, on St. Simons Island. Associated with Christ Church, Frederica, the Episcopal parish was formally chartered in 1808, while burials on the grounds are believed to date to the 1700s. The oldest decipherable tombstone is for Harriett Ross, who died in 1803. ([ccfssi.org](https://www.ccfssi.org/history?utm_source=openai)) The cemetery contains the graves of early settlers, plantation-era families, former rectors and their relatives, military personnel, and residents from later periods of the island’s history. The adjoining church’s present Gothic Revival building was consecrated in 1884, and the cemetery has been enlarged over time as burials continued. ([ccfssi.org](https://www.ccfssi.org/?utm_source=openai)) Visitors may access the historic cemetery from sunrise to sunset, and an online burial database provides searchable names and section locations.
