Description

Caheragh Old Graveyard, adjacent to the River Ilen, is an ancient burial site near a former monastic settlement. Initially serving the monastic community, it later became a shared cemetery for Catholic and Protestant populations. The site contains various grave types, including ornate mausoleums and simple markers, with the earliest inscriptions dating to the 1700s.

Notable figures include Mary Theresa Collins, whose preserved body inspired pilgrimages, and Captain Daniel Francis O’Neill, a famed Irish music collector. Skibbereen Heritage Centre has documented those interred, preserving the graveyard's rich history.
