West Avenue Cemetery is located on West Avenue at Arsenal Hill in Canandaigua, Ontario County, New York. Also known as Pioneer Cemetery, it occupies ground believed to have been set aside for burials when Canandaigua was laid out by Oliver Phelps and Nathaniel Gorham. The cemetery’s earliest documented burial is that of Captain Caleb Walker, who died in August 1790 as one of the first settlers’ community was being established.
