Description

Saint Sylvester Cemetery is located on Websterville Road in Lower Websterville, Barre Town, Washington County, Vermont, across from Wilson Cemetery. Ten acres were acquired for the cemetery on September 10, 1916, and its first burial took place that November after a man died in an accident at a nearby granite quarry. The grounds later expanded through land donated by Rock of Ages and the 2000 acquisition of the Churchill property on Graniteville Road. It is not municipally owned or operated; management is overseen by six volunteer trustees and the pastor of Saint Sylvester Church, with a sexton handling daily operations and plot sales. Notable burials include Reverend Napoleon LaChance, Eugene H. Nerney, and several former Saint Sylvester priests; a granite cross near the entrance was moved from the church rectory around 1930. Burial arrangements and cemetery inquiries may be made through the parish rectory.
