Description
Deerfield Presbyterian Cemetery is located in Deerfield, Deerfield Township, Cumberland County, New Jersey, beside the Deerfield Presbyterian Church. The congregation was founded in 1737, and its present Jersey sandstone church building was erected in 1771, placing the cemetery within one of Cumberland County’s early Presbyterian communities. The church’s history notes that the older section of the cemetery is said to contain a number of Lenni Lenape graves, although the claim is presented as local historical tradition rather than documented archaeological evidence. ([deerfieldpres.org](https://deerfieldpres.org/history/?utm_source=openai)) Cemetery inscriptions were published in the Genealogical Magazine of New Jersey in 1972, and genealogical inventories identify additional churchyard and tombstone records for researchers.
