Description

New Douglas Cemetery, also known as New Douglas City Cemetery, is located in New Douglas, Madison County, Illinois. Local historical accounts state that Alonzo Foster donated land for a city cemetery in the north part of town, linking the burial ground to the community’s early development. The cemetery has been associated with the New Douglas Cemetery Association, which was documented in Madison County records as early as 1925–1926 and continues to appear in county appointment records. It is listed as an active cemetery by the Illinois State Genealogical Society. The cemetery is also included in a published volume of Madison County tombstone inscriptions, making local historical and genealogical compilations useful starting points for burial research.
