Description

Lebanon Methodist Church Cemetery is located near Scotia in Hampton County, South Carolina, beside Lebanon Methodist Church. A South Carolina historic-resources inventory dates the cemetery site to 1886. The adjoining church, built in 1834, is a Greek Revival meeting house with a three-bay “ABA” façade, paired entrance doors, a central Palladian window, and nine-over-nine windows. ([scdah.sc.gov](https://scdah.sc.gov/sites/scdah/files/Documents/Historic%20Preservation%20%28SHPO%29/Research/HC08001.pdf?utm_source=openai)) The church property historically included a graveyard conveyed for the use of the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, and the cemetery is managed by a church cemetery association. ([hrcga.org](https://www.hrcga.org/church/lebanon-methodist/?utm_source=openai)) Genealogical research identifies Josiah Daniels Johnson, a nineteenth-century planter and public-office holder, among those buried there.
