Description

Leemont Cemetery is located at 1200 Claiborne Street in Danville, Virginia, and is one of the city’s eight municipally owned cemeteries. It was established in 1878, shortly after the Town of North Danville was organized, when a cemetery committee acquired land for a public burial ground. Originally called North Danville Cemetery, the grounds were laid out with squares, streets, walks, fencing, landscaping, and a framed cemetery map by 1879. Visitors may enter from sunup to sunset seven days a week. Burial, deed, plot, and index records for Leemont Cemetery are included in Danville’s historical cemetery-record collection, with coverage extending through 2006.
