Description
St. Michael’s Cemetery is located at 6 North Alcaniz Street in downtown Pensacola, Florida. The site was used as a Spanish burial ground by the late eighteenth century, and the land was formally designated for cemetery use in 1807. The approximately eight-acre cemetery contains more than 3,000 marked graves and is associated with Pensacola’s Catholic community and St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church. Its historic features include above-ground tombs, varied grave markers, and Priest’s Mound, an elevated section reserved for priests and nuns. The oldest documented tomb is that of José Roig, who died in Pensacola in 1812. Visitors may consult an online grave-location map maintained with the University of West Florida and visit daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ([stmichaelscemetery.org](https://www.stmichaelscemetery.org/find-a-grave?utm_source=openai))
