Description
Pinewood Cemetery is located at 700 West 6th Street in Uptown Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
Established around 1853, it forms part of the city’s Elmwood/Pinewood municipal cemetery complex.
Historically, Pinewood was designated for the burial of Black residents, while adjacent Elmwood served white residents.
The cemeteries were separated by a fence and distinct entrances until their desegregation in 1969.
