Description

Arbour Hill Military Cemetery is the burial site of 14 executed leaders from the 1916 Easter Rising, making it a significant place of pilgrimage for those studying Irish history. Adjacent to the cemetery is a church, once part of Arbour Hill Prison, with an old burial ground featuring memorials to British military personnel. The cemetery's main focus is the memory of the Rising, with notable figures like Patrick Pearse, James Connolly, and Major John MacBride buried there. Their unmarked grave is now marked with a prominent memorial in both English and Irish. Arbour Hill is located behind the National Museum of Ireland at Collins Barracks, which displays 1916-related exhibits.
