Dayton – Lyon County – United States

Dayton Cemetery is located on Cemetery Road in Dayton, Lyon County, Nevada, on a hill west of the historic town center. Established in 1851, it is one of Nevada’s oldest continuously maintained cemeteries and is marked as Nevada State Historical Marker No. 233. The cemetery was moved to its present hillside location after floods in 1861–1862 and remains an active cemetery maintained by Lyon County. Notable burials include James “Old Virginny” Finney, associated with the naming of Virginia City, former Nevada governor Charles H. Russell, and Judge Clark J. Guild.
